ABOUT YOUR ROLE

You will be a senior member of the Legal function of CCEP’s Australian business, working closely with the VP Legal & General Counsel – Australia, New Zealand, Pacific & APS Legal Strategy, Deputy General Counsel Australia and other team members.

The Senior Legal Counsel is responsible for providing informed, practical legal advice and training to the Australian business in order to create maximum value while appropriately managing business and legal risks. Every day, you will partner with the business for sustainable growth, as well as act as a mentor for other team members and a key contact for members of the Australian Leadership Team. The types of matters you might work on include navigating general commercial issues, drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements (particularly sales agreements), competition and consumer matters, supply chain projects, M&A projects, property and construction matters, environment matters, marketing, intellectual property, litigation and other general corporate arrangements.

In addition to leading these types of matters, you will be the key Legal partner for one or more business channels, working closely with the leadership team/s for those channel/s and providing legal counsel in a manner that drives forward CCEP’s competitive and commercial advantage and safeguards CCEP’s long-term viability and success. You will be responsible for identifying all relevant stakeholders/functions that need to be involved in a particular project and engaging with them confidently for their input, adopting a “One CCEP” approach.

This role requires the candidate to be an enabler, a team player, and someone who leverages their expertise to effectively influence decision-making in a complex environment. The role requires the right balance of independence, integrity, commercial acumen and influence.

This role is offered as a 9 month fixed term contract

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

General legal and strategic support

  • Providing robust, clear and commercially-focused legal advice, with solutions that are designed specifically to work in a CCEP context and focused on areas that would otherwise bring risk to the business
  • Acting as the key Legal partner for assigned business channel/s, working closely with the leadership team/s for those channel/s and providing legal counsel in a manner that drives forward CCEP’s competitive and commercial advantage and safeguards CCEP’s long-term viability and success
  • Partnering with stakeholders across the Australian business to navigate general commercial issues, as well as CCEP’s complex brand partner arrangements (including advising on consent and other requirements under our arrangements with The Coca-Cola Company)
  • Preparing, reviewing, drafting and negotiating a variety of agreements and other documents (particularly sales agreements)
  • Leading litigious matters, supply chain projects, M&A projects, property and construction matters, marketing and intellectual property queries, and environment matters (including assisting with the investigation, reporting and resolution of incidents at CCEP sites where appropriate)
  • Leading Legal-related projects (e.g. Contract Lifecycle Management)
  • Representing the BU Legal team and providing meaningful input on other strategic projects, working groups and committees
  • Recognising and understanding reputational impacts and issues and adapting to provide relevant advice in the circumstances (including those that need early engagement with PACS)
  • Understanding the CCEP landscape, including key commercial drivers, and tailoring advice to be effective and influential in the context of that landscape
  • General ability to identify and interpret financial metrics (e.g. Net Sales Revenue, Net Contribution) in the context of delivering effective legal advice
  • Liaising with regulatory authorities, including the ACCC and food authorities (e.g. FSANZ) on routine and non-routine matters
  • Being a subject matter expert in several key areas (e.g. sustainability, competition, capital projects)
  • Providing legal support in incident management and crisis resolution (IMCR) processes
  • Proactively tracking legislative, regulatory and administrative developments and educating relevant stakeholders regarding potential impact
  • Supporting the development, understanding, implementation and execution of enterprise-wide policies and practices

Connecting, collaborating and influencing

  • Developing strong relationships with a variety of stakeholders across the Australian business and seen as someone who protects, partners and enables for sustainable growth in everything they do
  • Identifying all relevant stakeholders/functions that need to be involved in a particular project and engaging with them confidently for their input, adopting a “One CCEP” approach
  • Acting as a “go-to” trusted adviser with the ability to effectively influence decision-making and ensure all legal implications are well understood
  • Connecting businesses, functions and teams across CCEP – including through the organisation of and participation in cross-functional activities, such as knowledge sharing sessions
  • Developing and delivering effective and engaging legal training and resources to the Australian business
  • With members of the wider CCEP Legal function being based in our other countries of operation, collaborating across jurisdictions and sharing learnings, including on global working groups
  • Recognising and understanding CCEP’s global regulatory obligations generally (e.g. continuous disclosure, SOX) and involving the relevant teams where necessary to manage issues that may need to be escalated

Our team

  • As a key member of the BU Legal team and through strategic focus, coaching and feedback, being a key contributor to the team’s drive to become a fully integrated strategic business partner
  • Taking the lead on mentoring other team members and delegating tasks to more junior team members where appropriate
  • Actively contributing to team Annual Business Plans, annual budgeting process and other strategic team initiatives
  • Effectively managing external law firm relationships to ensure value-for-money for legal services, including challenge where appropriate
  • Taking the lead on developing templates and resources for use by the team and proactively leading initiatives and improvements to be implemented by the team
  • Collaborating effectively with other Legal sub-functions (e.g. Ethics & Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, Data Privacy, Security) and helping deliver a seamless “one Legal” approach to the Australian business
  • Driving innovation in the delivery of legal services, including by developing and maintaining automation tools for processes and documents in conjunction with the Legal Operations Manager
  • Proactively identifying opportunities to improve processes, policies and procedures to encourage continuous improvement and empower the Australian business
  • Creating, strengthening and maintaining our inclusive team culture and spirit
  • Sharing learnings and knowledge across the team

LET’S TALK ABOUT YOU!

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from an Australian university (or equivalent)
  • Qualified to practise law in Australia with a current practising certificate
  • Bachelor qualification or higher in another relevant field highly regarded but not essential
  • 8+ years of post-qualification experience
  • In-house legal experience, whether on secondment or directly, preferred but not essential, with experience in an FMCG organisation highly regarded
  • Commercially savvy, pragmatic lawyer who can “take a view” and understands real risk (vs. theoretical risk)
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to partner with and effectively influence executives, managers and other colleagues, including by challenging where appropriate
  • Broad commercial and corporate experience with strong commercial acumen
  • Strong drafting and negotiation skills
  • Ability to exercise creative thinking and to define new and commercially pragmatic approaches to problems
  • Confidence to run with any issue with a strong sense of accountability and integrity
  • Ability to prioritise effectively and meet tight timeframes where necessary
  • Ability to focus on both the big picture and details
  • Demonstrated experience across a few different practice areas, with experience in competition and consumer law highly regarded
  • Ability to work autonomously, effectively and seamlessly across our Australian business, alongside corporate functions and with other stakeholders
  • Ability to manage a diverse workload across multiple jurisdictions and cultures
  • Self-awareness, a steady demeanour in challenging situations and comfortable operating in a complex and fast-moving environment
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver all key responsibilities described above
