Operations Coordinator, BULK – Wakefield

Contract Type: 12 month fixed term contract

Shift Based, Fixed 3 on / 3 off days and nights pattern - 12 hour shifts

Salary - £39,140.00

What you become part of:

Wakefield Distribution Centre is a 24/7 operation, our Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) warehouse holds 28,000 pallets, alongside a racked and block-stacked conventional warehouse of 12,000 pallets.  The combined typical annual throughput is over three million pallets.  Every 24 hours we expect to receive around 5,000 pallets from the on-site manufacturing operation, as well as handling around 360 vehicle movements at peak. 

What to expect:

As an Operations Coordinator, you’ll be central to the day-to-day orchestration of warehouse and yard operations. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally with various departments to drive efficiency, maintain inventory accuracy, and deliver customer excellence through effective coordination, planning, and problem-solving.

Your role will span across key operational areas:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate warehouse operations including storing, retrieving, pre-staging, and dispatching of finished goods.
  • Monitor inbound and outbound traffic, ensuring timely receipt from production and efficient trailer loading.
  • Make real-time decisions affecting warehouse flow and vehicle movements, escalating and resolving issues where required.
  • Liaise with the wider distribution team to plan and execute loading bay operations to full capacity per shift.
  • Share and drive best practices that enhance customer service, cost efficiency, and team productivity.
  • Maintain ownership of distribution processes from production receipt to customer delivery.

Additional Key Responsibilities:

Stock Coordination:

  • Oversee inbound goods from production and hauliers.
  • Maintain critical trackers such as Held Stock, Lost Pallets, and Returns.
  • Ensure accurate scanning and allocation of stock by FLT drivers.
  • Resolve Salesforce issues and SAP discrepancies.
  • Conduct breakage investigations and update necessary logs.
  • Maintaining of stock accuracy through balancing of business systems
  • Coordinate rework/returns bays and monitor system health checks including open POs, returns, and QAHO checks.

Pre-Staging & Wave Management:

  • Manage hourly wave releases via AWR (Automatic Wave Release) to maximise dispatch efficiency.
  • Monitor stock availability and adjust release parameters to meet the 99.8% case fill target.
  • Resolve pallet and loading issues in real-time and support re-releases when needed.
  • Conduct ASRS and conventional warehouse housekeeping.
  • Provide live updates and ensure timely production support.

Yard Coordination:

  • Allocate trailers for dispatch and monitor trailer conditions and readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with VOR lockout procedures.
  • Liaise with shunters, CSL teams, and hauliers to align loading schedules.
  • Monitor and track CHEP/polymer deliveries and maintain accurate yard logs.
  • Manage Transporeon updates and yard trailer inventories.

Skills & Essentials:

  • Proven experience in FMCG, fast-paced warehouse/distribution environments
  • Strong SAP knowledge (including IDOCS, POs, ASRS software) is highly desirable - Training will be provided
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills under pressure.
  • Detail-oriented with strong planning, tracking, and administrative skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate clearly across multiple functions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; Word, PowerPoint, Excel reporting experience preferred.
  • A flexible team player, willing to support across multiple operational areas as needed.
