What you become part of:
Wakefield Distribution Centre is a 24/7 operation, our Automated Storage and Retrieval System (ASRS) warehouse holds 28,000 pallets, alongside a racked and block-stacked conventional warehouse of 12,000 pallets. The combined typical annual throughput is over three million pallets. Every 24 hours we expect to receive around 5,000 pallets from the on-site manufacturing operation, as well as handling around 360 vehicle movements at peak.
What to expect:
As a Warehouse professional you will work as one of four team leads (Conventional / ASRS / Office / Midbulk). Reporting to the Senior Warehouse Professional on shift, you will be accountable for a variety of business metrics including cost and service, as well as an expectation for delivering a year-on-year improvement in these areas and others.
Your core responsibilities:
Safety:
- You will operate within a H&S management system and collaboration with a Team of representative .
- You will be responsible for developing Lead indicators and Reporting / Resolving Lag indicators to advance the health and safety culture.
People:
- You will support your team (approximately 10 – 15 operators) to grow and develop by engaging them with our performance management processes and successfully develop the pipeline talent of the future.
- You’ll inspire your team to follow operational processes, maintain stock accuracy, load/unload vehicles promptly and coach them in developmental areas.
- You will maintain high standards of customer service, for internal customers (e.g, factory) and external customers (e.g, retailers) and communicate these values to your team
Operational:
- You will lead as an Warehouse professional, Working directly Warehouse Technician operatives
- FLT training given to support the operation
- General warehouse duties / Housekeeping
- Directly managing the wider team on your shift.
- You will manage and direct the skills across shift to ensure customer targets are met
- There will be a continued focus on the Safety and Continuous Improvement by sharing Best Practice with other team members, colleagues, and national contacts.
Skills & Prerequisites:
Essentials:
Excellent communication, Organisation and influencing skills
- Previous record of Process Compliance
- Ability to understand change management and able to identify changes and focus areas for your team
- Willing to accept responsibility for long term, sustained performance improvement
- Ability to work under pressure whilst managing multiple timed targets simultaneously
- Working on shifts, you will take a flexible and co-operative approach to changes in the rota to meet the needs of our business
Desirable but not essential:
- Knowledge and understanding of SAP or working with other Warehouse Management System
- Previous Warehouse or People management experience
- Previous experience operating FLT/or shunting.
